Valerie Joy, Director of Nursing is a registered nurse with experience within hospital and community settings, specialising in Older Person Care and Stroke Rehabilitation. Val has represented Nursing Home Ireland on several committees and has previously held positions including being a member of the Fitness to Practice Committee of NMBI, the National Safeguarding Committee, the Board of NHI and other positions on National Advisory Groups for the Department of Health, HIQA and the NMBI. Val has responsibility for all issues relating to the care and welfare of residents, liaising with families and other health care professionals. Within her role, Val also supports staff in the provision of person centred care through continuous staff development and training. She is a qualified moving and handling, CPR and Safeguarding instructor. Val is also involved in the development of Policies and Standards and completed a Higher Certificate in Health Services Management in the University of Limerick. She has an ardent interest in Dementia Care and has completed a Masters in Dementia Care with Dublin City University. Val also has a qualification in Clinical Governance and Quality Management in Residential Care Settings for Older People, Infection Prevention & Control in Healthcare and a Certificate in Clinical Care with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
